A police chase has sent an officer to the hospital, after his patrol car was sandwiched between trucks driven by a deputy and a suspect.
It happened near Calle de Bosque in Bernalillo.
Deputies say a few hours ago, they got a 911 call from a man a few blocks away, saying someone was trying to carjack him.
As deputies were looking for that suspect, more neighbors called in worried about a man walking around with a rifle. That’s when Bernalillo Police got involved.
“At some point, the suspect was able to get into his truck and a short pursuit was initiated. The pursuit went through several fields here, crashing through several fence lines. When it went through the last fence line here, it T-boned a Bernalillo Police unit,” Sandoval County Lt. Jason Benally said.
The Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office says the collision pushed the police car into the deputy’s truck.
Deputies say the suspect had minor injuries. The Bernalillo Police officer was taken to UNM Hospital.
At this time, they are not releasing the suspect’s name. They say he had warrants out for his arrest, but would not say for what.
Investigators say the suspect did not fire his rifle at any neighbors, or at any police officers or deputies.
