Bernalillo County and the University of New Mexico are celebrating two special anniversary’s.
A tree was planted Friday to mark the 20th anniversary of the creation of Bernalillo County Open Space.
In 1998, a referendum was passed to allow for the acquisition of open space lands for public use.
It also marks the five years since the creation of the UNM North Golf Course Urban Open Space.
“Today [Friday] we celebrate the planting of new trees, to replace the aging canopy on this golf course, this brings the total of new trees planted to 200 over the last five years,” said Maggie Hart-Stebbins, Bernalillo County Commissioner.
A time capsule was also buried as part of the celebration.
