The General Election on Nov. 6 is quickly approaching, which means your time to register to vote or update voter information is winding down.
To make it easier for residents to do that, the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office is participating in National Voter Registration Day.
“Every once in a while, you just need to be reminded that you need to register to vote. You may have moved, you need to update your registration. If you’re going to be 18 years old by November, you can vote so you need to get registered,” said Linda Stover, Bernalillo County Clerk.
In honor of National Voter Registration Day, Stover is hosting the second annual Be the Vote voter registration drive.
Last year was the first year the clerk’s office decided to hold an event at Civic Plaza.
This year, the brand new mobile voting unit will be on hand.
Stover says it’s the first one in the nation that is designed to help older people who may have trouble getting out to vote.
Residents will be able to tour the unit.
“It’s open to the public, so you go in and vote and sign in, get your ballot, cast your ballot, put it in the tabulator and leave. So it is an early voting site,” said Stover.
Members of the clerk’s office will be on hand to answer questions.
The event will run Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Civic Plaza.
The last day to register to vote is October 9.
