A controversial housing development is another step closer to becoming a reality.
Tuesday night, Bernalillo County voted to approve the latest plans for the Santolina development — a proposed 1,300 acre development on the west side.
The project has been the subject of much debate with opponents primarily concerned about where the water will come from.
The Water Utility Authority has said groundwater is available, but new infrastructure will be needed to accommodate the development.
Commissioners Debbie O’Malley and Maggie Hart Stebbins voted against it.
