BCSO investigates deputy-involved shooting in SE Albuquerque

East Central is closed Monday afternoon as investigators swarm the area following a deputy-involved shooting.

The shooting happened near the Bow and Arrow Lodge and a daycare.

“I saw a gentleman run from the policeman across the street and he wouldn’t stop. They fired three times and he went down,” a witness said.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s says his deputies were out on patrol around noon and came upon a man with outstanding warrants, which include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The sheriff says when deputies confronted him on Central near the motel, shots were fired. The sheriff says he was armed, but did not say if he also fired shots.

“At the scene, deputies rendered aid and medical attention and he was transported to a local hospital. At this time, I understand he’s in surgery and we don’t know what his condition is at this time,” Sheriff Manny Gonzales said.

BCSO is not releasing his identity at this time, but say he’s been booked into MDC more than 45 times.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.
