News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The game of basketball has lost a legend Wednesday.

Jerry Tarkanian died at the age of 84. Coach Tark the Shark is most known for his great years at UNLV where he went to four Final Fours and got the national championship in 1990.

Tarkanian was also the coach of Fresno State in the mid-’90s and even played the Lobos quite often. One game in particular in March of 1996 Fresno State took on the Lobos at the pit, and it had the craziest outcomes going into three overtimes. The Lobos would win in the third overtime 104-99, with Lobo great Charles Smith dropping 29 points.

Coach Tarkanian is a basketball icon, and also the first person ever inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame from UNLV athletics.
