Balloonists celebrate 225th anniversary of America’s first hot air balloon flight

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Some hot air balloons took to the sky and paid tribute to a big moment that took place more than two centuries ago.

The first hot air balloon flight in America took off 225 years ago.

Several local balloonists celebrated the milestone by taking off from the Balloon Museum parking lot.

“Ballooning hasn’t changed. The view will look exactly the same as it would’ve 225 years ago and that’s where we get away from all the technology and everything else and just get to a pure form of flight,” said balloon pilot Troy Bradley.

Nearly a dozen balloons participated in the event.
