ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – There is a new addition to the Albuquerque Biopark Zoo.
Karen the hippo gave birth to her baby Tuesday morning.
There is no word yet if the latest addition is a boy or a girl.The zoo will try to get that information in a few days once mom allows them to get near her baby. Once the zoo knows the hippo’s gender, it will hold a contest so the public can help name it.
The zoo says, it’s important for endangered animals to breed and they are excited for the new resident.
