Avalanche warning in effect in Sangre de Cristo Mountains

News

TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – An avalanche warning is in effect in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico.

The Taos Avalanche Center says the avalanche danger is high after picking up nearly two feet of snow in the last 24 hours. They say natural avalanches large enough to bury or kill a person are very likely.

The center recommends avoiding back country travel especially in the Wheeler Peak area. The warning is in effect until Wednesday morning.
