Attorney General Hector Balderas says law enforcement agencies refusing to enforce the state’s new gun law could face serious consequences.

Senate Bill 8 was signed into law by the governor earlier this month. It requires background checks for all guns sold privately and at gun shows.

Numerous counties have opposed the bill, labeling themselves, “Second Amendment Sanctuaries”. However, in a letter from the attorney general’s office, police chiefs and county sheriff’s across the state were formally warned that any agency not enforcing the law could be liable for damage claims caused by lack of enforcement.
