ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – An Artesia man has been taken into custody following a fatal shooting in southeast New Mexico.
Police responded to a shooting at a home in Artesia on 10th street just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Officers found two men shot. Otis Chavez, 22, died at the scene. Daniel Aguilera, 22, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, but has been charged with murder.
No word on what caused the confrontation.
Aguilera is also facing murder charges for the 2015 murder of NMSU student Andres Rojos. Police say Aguilera’s bond for that case was set at $100,000 cash or surety, meaning he only needed $10,000 to get out, which is exactly what he did.
