Armed robbery suspect shot, injured by Albuquerque police

Albuquerque police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left an armed robbery suspect in the hospital.

Police responded to reports of a home invasion near Wyoming and Copper Thursday night. Authorities say that the caller who reported the invasion told dispatch that he was robbed at gunpoint and the suspect made him give up his belongings.

Officers arrived at the scene and confronted a man who matched the suspect’s description. The suspect was allegedly uncooperative and after producing a firearm, fired at least one shot at officers, though no officers were hit.

APD says that at least one officer returned fire, hitting the suspect. KRQE News 13 spoke with witnesses at the scene who heard gunshots.

“But these ones are kind of direct because we know when it’s gunshots, fireworks when it’s like direct to somebody,” said a witness in the area.

APD says the suspect was taken to the hospital and has yet to be identified. The man was last known to be in stable condition.

Authorities say that they are conducting interviews with witnesses.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
