Bernalillo County property owners are deciding if they will fund Albuquerque Public Schools with $1 billion.
Registered voters will begin receiving ballots in the mail on Wednesday. They’re being asked to approve a mill levy over the next six years.
The money will go towards rebuilding and repairing aging schools, refreshing technology and equipment, and much more.
If approved, property taxes would increase by 4.7 percent.
“When you’re talking about 1,200 square miles, 84,000 kids, once you divide that it’s not that much,” said Kizito Wijenje with Albuquerque Public Schools.
Voters will have until Feb. 5 to return their ballots.
