ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Over the past 20 years, autism rates have increased, but one local doctor says it’s early detection that is key.April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism now effects one in 68 children.Dr. John Good with ABQ Health Partners joined KRQE’s This Morning team to define autism and early signs to look out for. Watch above.Here are some of Dr. Good’s suggestions to look out for as possible indicators of Autism: lack of smiling at six months, lack of responsiveness to own name at nine months, lack of babbling at 12 months, lack of words at 16 months and lack of phrases at two years.Children with Autism do progress in many cases.
