The suspect in a shooting at a Ben E. Keith Foods warehouse was found dead after authorities say he shot and wounded three people Monday night.
It happened around 6:15 p.m. at the Ben E. Keith Foods warehouse on Broadway south of Gibson, near Woodward Road.
Police have identified the shooter as 30-year-old Waid Anthony Melton.
The three victims were taken to UNM Hospital and were listed in critical condition Monday night.
Every agency from the Albuquerque Police Department to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, to State Police, responded to the scene.
According to APD, they cleared the warehouse but believe Melton was able to get out.
Police were looking for Melton, who was driving a 1999 black Mazda B300 crew cab truck with NM plate 917RSM, and found his vehicle in Placitas off the I-25 northbound frontage road around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Melton was found dead near the vehicle.
APD says his cause of death remains under investigation.
Police say there were about 20 employees inside the food and beverage warehouse when the shooting happened. The plant is a 24-hour operation.
There is no word on if Melton was on his shift when police say he opened fire on his co-workers.
Albuquerque Police Department will hold a press conference later Tuesday.
This investigation remains ongoing.
