Albuquerque Police have arrested a suspect in the stabbing of a clerk early Monday morning during a robbery.

It happened at about 5:30 a.m. at the Giant at Central and Eubank.

Police say the clerk was hospitalized but is alert and talking.

The suspect, 41-year-old Benjie Montano, was arrested about two hours later in the Foothills Area.

Police say Montano had a knife, forced the clerk to the back of the store, made him get on the ground and stabbed him twice.

Another clerk then forced Montano out of the store with a shopping cart.

KRQE News 13 has also learned Montano was released from MDC in October after serving time for a similar incident at the Sprouts on Tramway and Central.

He pulled a knife on an employee after being confronted about shoplifting.
