Albuquerque Police helped drivers get another layer of protection in hopes of preventing auto theft.
Motorists lined up at the Pit for a VIN etching on their vehicles.
Using a small amount of acid, the vehicle identification number is imprinted onto each window.
Police says it helps deter car theft because the crooks would need to replace every single window if they want to sell a stolen vehicle.
“I don’t want to take that chance and if there’s any way to protect my property, I’m going to try and do it,” says Claire, who had VIN etched on her car.
If a car does still get stolen, those with VIN etching are easier to track.
The whole process takes about five minutes.
If you missed Saturday’s event, APD will have more in the future before the winter months when the acid does not work as well.
