APD arrests dozens of drunk drivers over holiday weekend

After the Albuquerque Police Department changed its mind about having DWI cops on the streets over the holiday weekend, officers ended up arrested dozens of drunk drivers.

KRQE News 13 reported its DWI unit wasn’t going to work the rest of the holiday weekend, but APD reversed that decision after our story aired.

APD set up a DWI checkpoint the day before Thanksgiving and made 31 arrests over the past four days.

“We don’t want to see anyone drinking and driving on the road…We have a dedicated DWI unit to get these individuals off the street. There’s so many ways you can go…ride share, get someone to drive you around,” APD Officer Simon Drobik said.

State Police made 15 DWI arrests in Albuquerque and 59 statewide.
