ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque YAFL coach was arrested after he received a package filled with drugs, police say.

It happened Tuesday after the Albuquerque Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security intercepted a package that had marijuana and marijuana wax inside.

APD said the package was intended for Jason Apodaca and was sent to him by his brother, Robert Apodaca. Both Jason and Robert have been arrested before on drug-related offenses.

Investigators said, officers obtained a warrant to search Jason’s home if he accepted the package when it was delivered. The package was delivered and Jason accepted it. Officers then searched his home and found more drugs including marijuana and ecstasy.

According to police, Jason admitted to accepting similar packages from his brother and had planned to sell the shipment to local dispensaries.

Police are investigating to see if Jason tried to sell the drugs to his players but officers say at this time there is no evidence that has been the case.
