Albuquerque SWAT situation ends with 2 offenders in custody

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man and a woman were taken into custody after an hourslong SWAT standoff Thursday. The standoff was at a Motel 6 on Prospect and Carlisle.

Albuquerque police say it started when detectives were following a known robbery suspect in a stolen vehicle. They followed him to the motel, where he barricaded himself.

After hours, the suspects were arrested. Police say this all takes time to keep everyone safe.

“Albuquerque is going to have to get used to when we have a major incident, roads will be tied up. It’s in the public interest. We don’t want to see anyone get hurt,” said an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson.

APD has not released the names of those taken into custody.
