Albuquerque residents report bizarre sight in sky

Albuquerque residents were surprised to see an unusual sight in the sky Thursday morning, and it wasn’t a hot air balloon.

Several witnesses captured photos of what looked like a dark ring in the sky.

KRQE News 13 reached out to Sandia National Labs and found out it was a smoke ring caused by a crude oil burn.

Heather Clark with Sandia National Labs said the burn occurred around 6:45 a.m. and went as expected.
