ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – There is a bizarre twist in Tuesday’s shooting of a woman. The ex-boyfriend accused of doing it says it was planned as a suicide and his neighbor’s dog told him to do it.

Matthew Gonzales, 48, told police he saw his ex update her status on social media showing she was single and got angry. According to court documents, Gonzales told police that his neighbor has a dog that communicates with him and the dog told him quote, “you need to take care of this.”

Gonzales told police he planned to kill himself in front of his ex. After forcing her into the car Gonzales says she tried to flee at one point and as he reached for her, with his hand still on the gun, he discharged it. Gonzales appeared in court Wednesday and is being held on a $150,000 bond.
