Albuquerque Police prep for Black Friday thieves

News

You will soon see an uptick in police presence in the Uptown area of Albuquerque.

A six-week police operation begins on Black Friday and runs through New Years Day, all to keep shoppers safe.

Wednesday, Mayor Tim Keller and Police Chief Mike Geier will be at Coronado Center announcing a tactical plan and best practices to avoid theft during the holidays.

In the past, police have told the public they expect an uptick in theft because of an influx in shoppers.

Authorities say thieves break into cars and steal not just shoppers presents, but things like insurance and left behind mail, getting away with personal information.
