ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police have identified the officer who died suddenly Thursday as Officer John Kelly. Officer Kelly joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 2006 and worked in the Field Services Bureau and as a detective for the Southeast Impact Team.
An autopsy is expected to begin Friday to figure out what suddenly killed Officer Kelly.
Kelly suddenly collapsed Thursday as he and other officers were gathering for crisis intervention training at the old Masonic Lodge on University.
Fellow officers rushed to give him CPR. Two ER doctors also came to the scene after hearing the call.
Officer Kelly was rushed to UNMH where he later died.
