Albuquerque police ID suspect in fake cop burglary case

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police have identified one of the two suspects who were caught on camera claiming to be cops before burglarizing a northwest Albuquerque home.

Police are looking for 34-year-old Shane Garcia in connection to the burglary. According to APD, Garcia is a repeat property crime offender who was just recently released from jail.

Garcia has been in and out of jail again and again this year for breaking into homes.

KRQE News 13 obtained four different criminal complaints of burglary cases in the last two years and in all four Garcia leaves one thing behind, his fingerprints.

But judges keep making it easy for him to get out by posting low bonds. According to court records, three different times in the past couple months, judges gave him bonds of just $250 to $500 and he was back out on the streets.

KRQE News 13 called district court to see why the judges took it so easy on him, but officials said they are not allowed to discuss open cases.

In the latest case police believe Garcia was involved in, a home surveillance camera caught two armed thieves kicking down the door of a North Valley home. The men claimed they were Albuquerque police officers serving a search warrant on Friday morning.

Garcia was being required to wear an ankle monitor, but according to police he managed to remove it.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 843-STOP.Read more about the incident >>
