Albuquerque officer cleared in 2013 shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County District Attorney has cleared an Albuquerque Police Department officer who shot a suspect. It happened in November 2013 when Officer Pete Romero pulled over Robert Garcia on Montgomery near Washington.

Lapel camera shows Garcia getting out of his car and pointing a gun at the officer. Garcia was shot in the stomach. Police say he was being investigated for child molestation and his family said he was suicidal. The gun he had was later found to be a realistic looking pellet gun.

Officers found a note in Garcia’s wallet saying thank you to the officer who shot and killed him. Garcia recovered from the shooting and is serving a three year prison sentence for the incident.
