Teen connected to West Mesa homicide to stay locked up

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - One of the teens accused of killing a man then dumping him on the West Mesa will remain locked up.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office discovered the body of 30-year-old Ivan Bocanegra last month along with his truck.

Christopher Herrera, 15, was arrested in connection to the homicide.

According to recently filed court documents, Herrera threatened the victim at gunpoint then began beating him with another person until he was motionless.

According to deputies, the pair then dumped the body on the West Mesa.

Prosecutes pushed for Herrera to stay locked up, saying he was a danger to the community.

Herrera's attorney's argued he should not be held because he only has a shoplifting charge in his past, but Judge Stan Whitaker did order him held.

BCSO has also obtained an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Jonathan Herrera, but have yet to locate him.

News 13 also learned in court that the killing was drug-related.
