APD: Driver involved in officer-involved shooting took himself to hospital with injury

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque Police Department officer is uninjured and a suspect fled the scene following an officer-involved shooting late Sunday evening. APD reports the incident took place in the area of Montano Road and Culture Drive following a traffic stop.

According to police, initial information indicates the officer and the driver got into an altercation which resulted in the officer discharging his firearm. The Multi-Agency Task Force is now investigating. The suspect’s car was later found abandoned at a gas station near the Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho.

Police say detectives learned Monday morning, that the driver took himself to a hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and that the individual is in stable condition. Police say detectives spoke with another individual who was with the driver at the time of the incident and detectives are looking for the vehicle they were driving.
