Man arrested in Downtown Albuquerque SWAT standoff

Local News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man barricaded in a car caused a major scene downtown, and it’s not the first time he’s been in the news.

After hours of negotiation, officers took Wesley Scott into custody late Monday afternoon near Gold and Second Street. KRQE News 13’s cameras caught the SWAT team’s robot breaking the window and throwing tear gas into the car before the man came out and was arrested.

Scott was wanted on domestic violence charges, but he’s also accused of helping dispose of a dead puppy after investigators say his wife threw the dog from a third-story balcony downtown.

During Monday’s incident, the area was shut down for most of the afternoon and people working nearby were told to stay in their buildings.
