Speculation mounts over what 'Breaking Bad' film project will cover

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Reports of a new “Breaking Bad” spinoff movie set to start filming in Albuquerque have renewed interest in the series and kicked up speculation of what it might be about.

The latest project is being called "Greenbrier" and some are speculating that it will continue to tell the story what happened to one of the main characters after the events of popular TV series.

A North Valley neighbor, Rocky Padilla, says he remembers when crews were filming what ultimately became some of the final segments of the series right behind his house on an old mill property near Paseo del Norte and Edith.

“The whole area was lit up,” said Padilla. “I was on top of the roof watching everything that I could see.”

The story of fictional characters Walter White and Jesse Pinkman won awards and sparked the on-going spinoff series “Better Call Saul,” which is still being filmed in Albuquerque.

The newly announced “Greenbrier” project is set to begin filming in Albuquerque in mid-November. Actor Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White, recently confirmed that the project is a film spinoff of the Breaking Bad series.

“Breaking Bad was very good, so I just can't wait to see that," said Padilla.

The New Mexico Film Office hasn’t confirmed that “Greenbrier” is connected to Breaking Bad, but says the project tells the story of “the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.”

SPOILER ALERT: the end of Breaking Bad left the story of Jesse Pinkman's character wide open.

Website Slashfilm reports that actor Aaron Paul, who played Pinkman is attached to the project.

Shooting is expected to begin in the next few weeks and continue through the end of February 2019.

Bryan Cranston recently told the sports talk radio program “The Dan Patrick Show” that he hasn't read the script for "Greenbrier," but would "absolutely" return to play Walter White if his character was in it.
