ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Someone has been charged after a shooting death in southeast Albuquerque.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home near Broadway and Sunport Boulevard just before 9 a.m. Sunday.

Police reported Elias Garcia, 67, called 911 to state he shot an intruder at a home in the 400 block of Wesmeco Drive SE. He allegedly told authorities he found a woman in his home after she cut a screen door to get inside.

Officials stated Garcia said he got his gun and threatened to shoot her if she moved.

Garcia reportedly told police the woman tried to run out of the door as he was going to call police. He alleged he grabbed the woman by the back of her shirt, but she “yanked” him out of the door, and the gun was fired.

Garcia was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
