ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Rio Grande High School was under a brief shelter in place Thursday after reports of two people with weapons in the student parking lot. According to a letter sent to Rio Grande High School parents, the two individuals were law enforcement officers that were using the student parking lot to transfer equipment to another vehicle.

“Even though this turned out to be a false alarm, we are grateful to the individual who came forward to alert security of a possible problem,” the letter stated. “School safety is a community responsibility, and we encourage students, staff, and neighbors to alert us when they learn of potential threats to our school. We take every possible threat seriously and work closely with APS Police and other law enforcement to keep our campus safe.”

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputies were also on scene to assist.
