Pork supplier makes 41,000-pound donation to Albuquerque food bank

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A global company teamed up with a regional grocery chain to help feed hungry New Mexicans.

Smithfield Foods, which bills itself as the world's largest pork producer, has been traveling the country to help out food banks.

Tuesday, they stopped in Albuquerque, partnering with Lowe's Supermarkets to donate 41,000 pounds of products to the Roadrunner Food Bank.

"It's huge, it's a huge donation in and of itself, and the fact that it's all protein is amazing because we just don't get that much donated at one time, hardly ever," Andrea Nash, Roadrunner Food Bank spokesperson, said.

Roadrunner Food Bank feeds around 70,000 New Mexicans per week.
