Suspicious device found in City View Park is third in recent weeks

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A suspicious device found at a Foothills park on Saturday was the third one reported there in the past six weeks, Albuquerque Police said.

"A person was walking around the park, found a suspicious device in the area," APD Ofc. Simon Drobik said.

APD's bomb squad was called to check out the scene at City View Park near Copper and Tramway.

About an hour later, police determined it was high-grade fireworks concealed in a 'concerning manner.'

Despite it later being rendered safe, it's still a concern to officers who said this is the third time in six weeks that the bomb squad has been called to the park.

The first time it was a pipe bomb.

Police said the other incident was similar to Saturday's, but those fireworks were run over by a city lawnmower.

"Obviously, there's somebody that's been terrorizing this park here recently and want to let that person know that if you're located you're looking at state charges and federal charges," Drobik said.

APD said it placed a surveillance camera by the park in the past and that it's going to consider bringing it back as an extra safety measure.

APD urges anyone who sees a suspicious device or package to call them.
