ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Central Ave. near Yale Blvd. on Friday morning. APD reports that officers responded around 6:40 a.m. to a rollover crash in the area.
Police report that a gray 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a male was traveling eastbound on Central Ave. at a high rate of speed. Authorities state that a male pedestrian was walking eastbound on the south sidewalk of Central Ave.
According to APD, the driver of the Camry lost control of the vehicle which then left the roadway, striking the pedestrian on the sidewalk. The male pedestrian was transported to the hospital but died en route to UNMH.
Police report the roads were wet from rain at the time of the crash and that speed appears to be a factor in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Note: A previous version of this story stated the crash was a fatal rollover which was initially reported by APD. The incident was not a rollover but a fatal pedestrian crash.
