ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque police are looking for suspects in a deadly shooting at a house party in the Northeast Heights. Now, the victim’s family is giving insight into what happened.
Even though police still have not identified who was shot, family members say 17-year-old Sean Markey, was killed at a high school party.
APD says they got multiple calls about gunshots early Sunday morning. When they got to the home near Eubank and Montgomery, they saw signs of a shooting and say someone shot there later died at Kaseman Hospital.
“Sorry to the family of the victim, and I hope they caught the suspect already,” says neighbor Estevan Leyba.
While police are staying tight-lipped on the victim’s identity, family says it was Sean Markey who died. Sean’s guardian says the Sandia High School senior was at a party at the house when he was shot and killed.
“The front door was open then we heard the other seven shots,” says another neighbor, Pat Leyba.
A neighbor’s security camera caught the moments of panic after the shots were fired. Dozens of people are seen running away from the house and into their cars as they tried to make a quick getaway.
“It was just kind of crazy, surreal. Nothing like this has ever happened that we’ve ever encountered in our neighborhood,” says an anonymous neighbor.
Even though people who live nearby did not see who was behind the shooting, they’re hoping for justice.
“Turn yourself in. Man up to it. You’re such a man with a gun, man up to it,” says Pat Leyba.
Police have not confirmed the identity of the victim, but the family believes Sean was targeted at random. Police also have not identified a suspect and say they are still investigating.
