ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Futuristic ideas came to the forefront thanks to some of New Mexico's youngest and brightest minds.
Saturday, hundreds of middle school students competed in the Discover-E Future City Competition at the UNM School of Architecture.
Thirty-five teams from all around the state created a future city model and then explained to a team of judges why theirs was the best.
Annunciation Catholic School won first place for their creative design.
"We wanted to make a resilient smart grid and how we could make our city more resilient to natural disasters, especially earthquakes which is demonstrated in our model," the students said.
The team will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in a national competition in Washington D.C. next month.
