Local cheer squads possibly exposed to mumps at national cheer tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - After traveling to a national cheer tournament, at least two Albuquerque cheer squads are watching out for mumps.

The "Cheer Central Suns" and "Razzle Dazzle" teams were among thousands at the National Cheerleaders Association Championship in Dallas nearly two weeks ago.

The Texas Health Department is now warning that one person traveled to the event with mumps.

There are no reports of the illness yet, but the virus incubation period is just ending.

Mumps is a contagious, painful virus that swells mouth and throat glands.

It's easily spread through coughing, sneezing or sharing food.
