Commissioners seek to change new paid sick leave ordinance

Albuquerque News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two county commissioners are looking to amend the recent sick leave ordinance. That ordinance requires employers to pay one hour of sick time for every 32 hours works.

Commissioners Steven Michael Quezada and Charlene Pyskoty are looking to change the ordinance based on a business’ size. Many small business owners have expressed concern about the costs of providing leave to all employees.

Under the amendment, smaller businesses would have to provide less time, with bigger businesses providing more. The changes would require a public hearing before a full vote.
