AMAFCA plans to light up 'volcano' for Valentine's Day

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The local flood control authority has a hot new way to celebrate this Valentine's Day.

You may be familiar with AMAFCA's "volcano" near 98th Street and I-40, which serves as both a storm system and an art installation. Now, AMAFCA is inviting people to stop by Thursday with their Valentine.

"We do flood control, and that's not usually seen as romantic," field engineer Nolan Bennett said. "We went ahead and this week we put on a Valentine's Day theme of pink and red so people could have a little bit of fun around our stormwater facilities."

Last year, AMAFCA lit up the volcano green for St. Patrick's Day and red and green for Christmas. The lights will be changed regularly for the holidays.
