ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A deadly shooting happened in southeast Albuquerque, authorities said. A man has been charged for his alleged role in the shooting.

Albuquerque Police Department (APD) said Carlos Gonzalez, 24, has been arrested in the shooting death of his girlfriend. She was identified as Areli Rodriguez, 18. He’s also accused of shooting a second victim.

Just after midnight Sunday at 920 Louisiana Boulevard SE, detectives said Gonzalez left his apartment with a loaded firearm. Nearby people were fearful of the gun and tried to take it away. During that struggle, Gonzalez allegedly pressed the trigger. One victim was hit, and Rodriguez was fatally shot.

APD said Gonzalez and Rodriguez were arguing at a baby shower Saturday before later returning to their residence with Rodriguez’s sister and her sister’s boyfriend. The incident ensued at that location, and Gonzalez reportedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend, her sister, and her sister’s boyfriend.

Rodriguez was hit by gunfire along with her sister’s boyfriend. She died, and he was taken to the hospital and treated for the wound.

Gonzalez is charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
