Albuquerque gets rid of criminal penalties for small amounts of pot

Starting Friday, having small amounts of marijuana will no longer get you thrown in jail in Albuquerque.

City councilors passed the amendment to the city’s criminal code earlier this month.

Possessing less than one ounce will get you a $25 ticket instead of jail time.

Mayor Keller says removing the criminal penalties for possession of small amounts of marijuana will free up precious resources for law enforcement.
