Albuquerque’s Painted Sky Elementary School is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Officials say the westside school was one of the biggest elementary schools in the state until recently. The number of students went down when a new school opened down the road.
Three teachers have been teaching there through the decades and call it home.
“We are diverse: 84 percent Hispanic, 8 percent Native American…Arabic speaking kids, lots of Native American languages…truly a coming together of all our diverse communities to make our kids succeed,” instructional coach Joy Garratt said.
Friday night’s celebration included student performances.
