Albuquerque balloonist wins Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award

It was an emotional evening for an Albuquerque balloonist as he received the most prestigious award given by the FAA.

Albert Lowenstein was awarded the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award during a special ceremony at the Albuquerque Balloon Museum.

The award is given to pilots who have flown continuously and successfully for 50 or more years. Lowenstein says his piloting career started when he was just 8 years old.

“I enjoy aviation and I enjoy sharing aviation. That’s why I teach flying balloons now. I used to teach flying airplanes. I just enjoy sharing my love with others,” Lowenstein said.

Lowenstein is one of 5,300 to receive the prestigious award.
