Alamogordo residents react to redesign plans for ruined playground

News

The city of Alamogordo has released plans for a replacement playground for the Kids’ Kingdom, which was burned to the ground.

While investigators still haven’t released an official cause, they say it was definitely human-caused.

It’s been devastating to the community since they raised much of the money to build it and actually built it themselves.

The city says it will get more than $400,000 from the insurance company to build a new playground and the city will add another $119,000 to the project.

They’ve unveiled preliminary plans, which include a completely new design.

So far, the response isn’t very positive. Many are wondering how a playground like this will cost $519,000. Others want to see something more like the old playground.

“I think I should be encouraged that adults and children play together in the same space rather than the separation between the two, so that would be one thing I would see,” Nick Petticrew said.

“I mean, the biggest thing I hear from every kid is put in tire swings. New redesign, I like it, definitely want to see somewhere that the adults can sit and watch their kids easily,” Jordan Wheeler said.

City officials say they are listening to the community and will look to alter the design.
