A week after blasting the University of New Mexico for lack of transparency, Attorney General Hector Balderas says he now has new hope for the future after meeting with UNM’s president.
Last May, Balderas announced he would be launching an investigation, including a criminal review of UNM’s use of public funds and possible abuse of privileges.
In a letter to UNM last week, Balderas said the university is not fully cooperating with investigators.
After a recent meeting with UNM’s president, Balderas is changing his tune. He says he is optimistic that under her leadership UNM will be held accountable, ensuring collaboration and transparency.
Stokes now says it is the university’s responsibility to be responsive and timely to requests.
