Has the fire department been called to a false alarm at your home or business? Then you’re contributing to a growing problem.
Last year, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to 2,000 false fire alarms, wasting about $200,000 of taxpayer money.
Now the department will start tracking these false alarms and fining offenders.
All business are required to register their alarm, along with homes used for business purposes.
Businesses will be allowed three false alarms a year, after that they will be fined $300.
After 10 false alarms the fine increases to $500.
