AFR celebrates 45-year partnership with UNM EMS Academy

News

Albuquerque Fire Rescue celebrated a longstanding partnership with the University of New Mexico on Wednesday.

AFR has worked with the UNM Hospital EMS Academy for 45 years. Over the years, the partnership has allowed the department to train students using AFR paramedics as the lead instructors.

That’s in addition to providing training to other departments and agencies across the state, resulting in a continuous flow of medics onto the streets.

“This partnership is incredibly important because it’s allowed us to train hundreds of paramedics over the years and provide a higher level of service to our community,” Capt. Stephany Perea said.

Wednesday’s ceremony also included AFR presenting the EMS Academy with a plaque to celebrate.
