New details have been released about the apartment complex fire that displaced dozens of people.
The fire happened near Zuni and Louisiana Sunday and left 40 residents and pets without a place to live.
The Albuquerque Fire Department says two families were able to return home Tuesday.
Other families will have to wait weeks because of extensive fire, smoke and water damage.
There were reports of a gas meter blowing up, but AFD Fire Chief Paul Dow says that was not the cause of the fire.
“There was a point where the flames compromised the gas meter. That caused damage to the meter and caused it to rupture. When that happened, the gas was consumed with fire.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The city says it found smoke detectors, but they were last inspected more than 20 years ago.
