ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Thursday, civil rights activists will be meeting with the Board of Regents at the University of New Mexico to discuss the school’s controversial seal.
Some say the seal — which shows a conquistador and frontiersman — represents violence against Native Americans. The Native American rights group and the Kiva Club are now pushing to change the seal, and handed a list of demands to the school’s president last week.
In order for the seal to change, it has to be approved by the Board of Regents.
